Jesus meets his mother

But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. (John 19:25-27 ESV)

Prayer
O Lord Jesus, at thy passion a sword of sorrow pierced the loving heart of thy blessed mother as Simeon had foretold. Grant that we who look back on her sorrows with compassion might likewise have our hardened hearts pierced by the recognition of our sins and by thy inestimable love for us through your passion and death on the cross.
